Day in the Life of a Retiree - Just Vegging
November 26, 2007 Today I feel like just vegging. Yesterday was so busy. Gave a baby shower for my daughter and although it was a great deal of fun, it was also very stressful. I can't seem to take stress as easily as I use to. That's what is so great about being retired. I don't have to experience the constant stress that sometimes made my life miserable. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the challenges of my job and to some extent miss those challenges but now I can find new outlets for the need to solve problems but on my own time and with no deadlines and with no one looking over my shoulder. I still enjoy lots of activity and challenges. In the summer my husband and I are avid golfers and I am still trying to find an answer as to why I cannot hit my drive 200 yards. That is a challenge. In the winter months like we are just now starting I start a relaxing day reading the local newspaper in which I must complete the sudoku and the crossword. Of course I am drinking my coffee while these puzzles are being solved. Today's were easy because it is Monday. Then I have to read my email and answer some. I enjoy the jokes that people send but I personnally prefer to read an actual letter from someone. With news about what they are doing etc. Then of coure there is getting the snail mail which comes about mid-morning. It is always a treat if there is an old fashioned letter from someone. That happens rarely anymore. The only one who sends me this type of communication is my mother's cousin in Scotland. I made contact with her and some of the rest of her family in Scotland in 2005, on our 5 week visit to Great Britain. She helps with my genealogy questions. That is another activity that I engross myself in during the winter when I have easier access to the computer and to the local library, that is genealogy. We have gone back to the 1700's for most of my family lines and find these challenges very fulfilling. There is so much online and I hope to make even more local stuff more readily available myself by posting cemetery records and local church records on my website. Should be fun. And now I have a new hobby, that is blogging, which I have never done before and don't know who would even be interested in what an old cogger like myself would be rambling about. But that is all for today. Today I feel like just vegging.
